Breeding Banded Crickets

Gryllodes sigillatus

Banded crickets

Introduction

Banded crickets

Gryllodes sigillatus, or banded crickets as they are more commonly known are an ideal live food for faster more agile animals. Banded crickets are fast moving and much more willing to climb than other species of crickets. This means they are well suited to animals like anoles, tree frogs and fast lizards like skinks.

Banded crickets aren’t used for live food as commonly as they were in the 90’s and early 00’s because of the increased availability of the silent brown field cricket which are favored because of their lower jump height and quieter chirp. They are still available in a number of pet stores and some online stores still stock them (make sure you are buying Gryllodes sigillatus and not the brown field cricket). If you are unsure of where to buy them email me and I will point you in the right direction.
