Acanthoscurria geniculata

Brazilian Whiteknee Tarantula

Acanthoscurria geniculata by Frosted Peppercorn

Adult Size: 7-8inch
Locality: Northen Brazil
Habits: Terrestrial with some individuals burrowing relatively extensively.
Temperament: Nervous and semi aggressive

Temperature: 75-85f
Humidity: 70%
Diet:Pinhead crickets for spiderlings, adults will happily take larger insects (crickets, cockroaches, locusts etc) and even small vertabrates
Housing: This is a large spider and as such needs a relatively large enclosure, adults will do well in a 10-15 gallon tank. Offer a good 5-6inches of substrate (coco fibre is ideal) as some individuals will burrow heavily (although others won't burrow at all). A piece of cork bark or similar should be provided as a hide, as well as a shallow water bowl.

Notes:

This beautiful spider is a favourite of mine being the first tarantula I ever kept, this is a large stunning species with character to match. Acanthascurria geniculata are extremely aggressive feeders usually taking as much food as you can throw at them. They are also extremely fast growers, reaching their large adult size within less than two years for some individuals. Captive bred individuals (both spiderlings and adults) so you should avoid buying WC whereever possible.
