Appearance

The chuckwalla is a large fat looking lizard (hence the scientific name obesus) which is rather drab in colour. The specific colour is highly variable, varying with age, sex and location. The females and the young are grey or brown in with dorsal bands, their intensity varies with locality and individual specimens. The males tend to display more intense colours, their body may be orange, tan, yellow, red or cream. They have a black head and cream, orange or yellow tail.

Southwestern US.

Upto 18in.

 

Approx lifespan

Upto 12-15yrs.

 

REcomended vivarium size

4x2x2in vivarium should be the minimum for one specimen or possibly a pair.

 

Basic set up type

Arid savannah with rocks for hiding on and basking underneith.
