Appearance

The rhinoceros iguana is a large bulky lizard, it has a large dorsal crest and a prominant dewlap (flap of skin on the chin). They tend to be relatively dull in colour, a grey-blue (although specimens showing a more dominant blue colour can be spectacular). Nasal horms in maure males are what give the Rhinoceros Iguana its name. Younger specimens may have dark lateral bands, these fade with age however and are barely notiable in mature specimens.

Hispaniola (A Caribbean island)

 

Adult size

4ft, although they are very bulky and can seem larger.

 

Approx lifespan

Upto 20 years

 

REcomended vivarium size

6x6x3ft should be a minimum vivarium size for a single adult specimen

 

Basic set up type

Rocky with perches and sturdy climbing opportunities.

 

Diet

A diet similar to that of the Green Iguana is recomended for the Rhinoceros Iguana.
